Coffee & Corks

Hello everyone!

The time of year has come once again for National Novel Writing Month, and this community would like to work alongside those of you who are participating.

As such, the daily posts during the month of November will change from what you're normally used to seeing here (unless by some miracle anyone requests that the daily prompts or challenges continue as well!).

Instead, there will be posts with open comments which will include discussion on your work, excerpts from that day's work, your word count hit, and anything else to do with NaNo. Members will also be encouraged to post to the community directly and the posting restrictions will be lifted a little.

For now, we will start with this thread: let's have a check in to see who's writing what.

Go on, give us an introduction to your work and, if you're new here, to yourself as well.

Comments are open to encourage creativity :)

With love,

Hi Laura!

Welcome to the community, and thank you for commenting.

Sounds like your project for NaNo this year is a big one, as you say. Have you worked on it every year? When was your first NaNo? Have you won every year?

I've heard that a lot of people use spreadsheets on excel for their planning. I, personally, have never been able to plan out chapter by chapter. I may just not be disciplined enough to do so, haha.

Looking forward to hearing more about your novel and seeing your characters and development here throughout the month of November! Coffee will get you through! ;)

Like Laura, I also saw your post on add_a_writer.

Name: Raine.
Age: Thirty.
Location: Michigan.
What I like to write: My comfort zone is urban fantasy, but I have been known to try new things. One year, my NaNo novel was sci-fi. Last year it was steampunk.

This year I'm doing something BIG. I have elementals and guardians and gates to various realms, oh my!

I have A LOT of characters (well... more than usual, for me, but still significantly less than some authors out there), so I'll be taking a page from George R.R. Martin by naming my chapters after the character in question.

Can't wait to get started!

Hi Raine!

Thanks for commenting. I love the sound of urban fantasy, although I've never dared to write any.

Your story certainly sounds on the epic side, which is good! Your character / chapter titles sounds like a good way to go to keep track of all your characters. How long has this story been in the works?

Some characters have been used in previous NaNo novels, and it wasn't until this year, around April or May, that I realized that these characters are part of a much bigger storyline. So they'll be making a reappearance. :)
