[sticky post]Hi there!
Coffee & Corks
cenowar
Dear writer,

Welcome to coffeeandcorks!

I'm sure you know what it's like. Sometimes, you just want to get away from the world for a while and write to your heart's content. That's what Coffee & Corks is all about - a safe haven for your characters, ideas, arcs, problems... anything else you might encounter in the world of writing.

About Us

(What we do!)
The great thing about us is that we welcome almost anything. Fanfiction, original fiction, poetry - the lot! Once a member, you are able to post your work here whenever you like, as well as post ideas or prompts for other members of the community that they can refer to if they need help. You can post whatever you like, whenever you like; as long as your submission is about writing in one form or another, seeing it here is what we love.

There are daily challenges, weekly questions, handy writing tools, a steadfast community, reviews, advice, guidelines... anything you could possibly want or need when creating and refining your masterpiece work.

Please note: The only exception to the above is that this Community is not for the posting of completed fanfiction. There are several other fandom communities out there for completed works. You are of course still welcome to post fanfic problems, excerpts, advice quieries, etc. here - particularly if they include original characters.

Membership

(What joining us means for you!)
You are free to watch the community at any point, as well as engage in discussion/challenges/etc via the comments, or even review someone's work. However, membership (and posting access) is limited. There is a community feel here that we would like to maintain, and that can get difficult with people floating in and out and leaving inactive accounts by the wayside.

Once you can post, you are free to post you entries as "members-only" - although please bear in mind, we actively encourage the majority of our posts to be public, as it encourages those watching to interact and become part of us.

Please don't take the membership thing personally - even if you've only commented a couple of times, you're likely to get membership. It's just an easy way for the community to keep its authentic feel. Honestly, we welcome everybody :)

New Members

(What to do if you've just joined us)
Hello! *waves* It's great to have you, thank you so much for wishing to be a part of this lovely community. If you'd like to click here, we will escort you to the new members' thread. You can introduce yourself there, tell us a little about yourself, your writing, and also any other interests you may have. It's essentially our own friending meme, so you're bound to make more friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

FAQs

(Questions you may want to see answered)
We will be the first to admit that as of writing, none of these questions have actually been asked (yet). But they may do, and it would be worth your while to know they are here - so please read on! :) They can also be found on our profile page, for those who are savvy enough to notice.

This is cut, because it is lengthyCollapse )

Miscellanous

(Final Hellos)
The links in the sidebar will hopefully be a great place to start, or you can start browsing and submitting straight away!

That should be everything, but you can always contact us at our Page-a-Mod service should you need to make contact.

With love,

Coffee & Corks

National Novel Writing Month Daily Challenge

Wherein we try to jolt some encouragement into that work of yours

Welcome one and all to another day. Today is Wednesday, which means it's time for the quotation themed "Wisdom Wednesday".

Codes of Conduct & Courtesy
- Please post your submissions directly to the community (as well as anywhere else you may like). This keeps commenters within the community and helps keep the community alive and whole.
- For this NaNo themed post, comments have been left open for discussion rather than fictional responses.
- When posting fiction, please use the appropriate headers and/or warnings
- Daily Challenges remain open forever; you can respond to them any time you like, with as many responses as you choose. All we ask is that you please make sure you use the appropriate tags ("daily challenge response" and "daily challenge: #no"). It's only so someone else can find it!

Today's Challenge:

"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it."
C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)

What's your story about? Is it an 'original' work, or inspired from your favourite authors?

See you tomorrow for Thoughtful Thursday!

National Novel Writing Month Daily Challenge

Wherein we try to jolt some encouragement into that work of yours

Welcome to our National Novel Writing Month themed daily challenges! These will run from the middle of October (in preparation for November 1st!) until the 30th of November.

Each day we will post something different, in a cycle of seven - one for each day of the week - and you come back to us any time you want with what you have. These are for fun, not for competition.

Today is Tuesday, which means that we've got the double themed "Two for Tuesday".

Codes of Conduct & Courtesy
- Please post your responses directly to the community (as well as anywhere else you may like). This keeps commenters within the community and helps keep the community alive and whole.
- You must give two responses for Two for Tuesday (of any length)
- When posting fiction, please use the appropriate headers and/or warnings
- Daily Challenges remain open forever; you can respond to them any time you like, with as many responses as you choose. All we ask is that you please make sure you use the appropriate tags ("daily challenge response" and "daily challenge: #no"). It's only so someone else can find it!

Today's Challenge:

Introductions. Introduce us to two of your characters for your planned novel. You may either role play or just give us a background briefing. Members - please remember to post this to the community!

See you tomorrow for Wisdom Wednesday!

5/11 to 11/10 - Weekly Question - Writer's Block
Coffee & Corks
cenowar
Not so long ago, livejournal had a "Writer's Block" feature. A daily question appeared on the front page of livejournal when you logged in, with the option of viewing all the users' responses who had replied. In 2012, livejournal abolished the beloved Writer's Blog due to "technical glitches".

Every week, once a week on Saturdays, Coffee & Corks will post a question of its own. The question can either be answered a) RP style, as one of the characters you're working on, to help you better understand them, or b) as yourself to generate community discussion.

You're encouraged to reply to the question via comments - and also to reply to other users who have spoken. If you/someone else decides to RP a character, be aware that other users may ask further questions of that character.

It'll generally be named as a weekly discussion thread, in any case, and will be a bit of a no-holds-barred. The first few will be public entries, for obvious reasons, but as we gain more members this will eventually become a members-only event.

Anyway - without much further ado... This week's Writer's Block!

Haven't seen you around here before. What's your story?
Asked by cenowar

If you are interested in submitting questions for the Writer's Block, please leave them here. If your question is selected, it will be labelled in the next week's Writer's Block. And then you can feel good about yourself, for being a valued member! Yay! :)

Mod Post: Nanowrimo 2013
Coffee & Corks

Hello everyone!

The time of year has come once again for National Novel Writing Month, and this community would like to work alongside those of you who are participating.

As such, the daily posts during the month of November will change from what you're normally used to seeing here (unless by some miracle anyone requests that the daily prompts or challenges continue as well!).

Instead, there will be posts with open comments which will include discussion on your work, excerpts from that day's work, your word count hit, and anything else to do with NaNo. Members will also be encouraged to post to the community directly and the posting restrictions will be lifted a little.

For now, we will start with this thread: let's have a check in to see who's writing what.

Go on, give us an introduction to your work and, if you're new here, to yourself as well.

Comments are open to encourage creativity :)
